Minutes April 20, 2011 Board Meeting,

7:30 PM at the home of Muriel Horacek

Present:  Joe Bergen, Dirk Heinrich, Muriel Horacek, Jenny Kong,

     And Mesa resident Chari Gilmore

The minutes from the March 16th Board meeting were approved.

Chari Gilmore reported on the results of three surveys undertaken to improve safety in Starlight Mesa.  All residents except those on Lower Stardust were polled.

--73 residents indicated they were in favor of a three-way stop sign at the corner of Starlight Crest Drive and Starlane Drive

--72 residents supported requesting the City of La Canada install “Be Aware Drive with Care” signs in the Mesa.

Chari, accompanied by Joe Bergen, plan to attend a La Canada City Council meeting to request the three-way stop sign, and also two permanent safety signs.  The Board approved the purchase of the two permanent safety signs if they could not be obtained free.

In the absence of Treasurer Mary Freeman, Joe Bergen observed that the March Financial Report from Cardinal did not incorporate changes in budget categories that Mary requested.  Joe will request a meeting with the Cardinal accountant.

Maintenance Report:

--Joe confirmed that the loss sustained by Jose Toribio due to the break-in of the gardeners’ shed was not covered by our insurance policy.  Dirk will request a quote from our insurance agent for $10,000 theft insurance.

--Joe reported that security cameras have been installed at the gardeners’ shed, and motion-detector solar-powered security lights have been ordered.

--Jenny reported that she removed the pool umbrellas from storage, cleaned them, and installed them on the tables in the pool area.

--The Board approved the bid of $374 to trim palm trees around the pool area.

--Joe reported that new pool furniture to replace the unrepairable items has been ordered.

--A solar sprinkler timer for the putting green has been ordered.

--Culvert repair has been postponed until the summer due to cash flow reasons and the need to do repairs when the ground is very dry.

--Pampas grass has been sprayed around the pool/tennis area.

--All palm trees and crepes were fertilized.  Plantings on hillside are finished and mulched.

--In comparing last year’s utility bills with this year’s, a significant decrease in costs is due to updating and improving equipment.

The Board approved the purchase of colored tape to mark the step down from the bar area to the pool area as a safety measure.

The next meeting will be at 7:30 PM, Tuesday, May 24 at Dirk Heinrich’s house.

By email on April 11, the Board approved the driveway improvement submitted by Glenn Cunningham.

Respectfully submitted,

Muriel Horacek, Secretary
